intranda OCR service and ABBYY FineReader Engine 11

intranda began testing its new TaskManager 2.0 in January 2014 together with Version 11 of the Abbyy FineReader. This involved (large-scale) trials subject to very strict quality controls. In light of the positive results, all the OCR systems used by intranda’s customers were converted to Abbyy FineReader Engine 11 at the beginning of April 2014.

The upgrade means that we can offer an even better text-recognition service as part of the digitisation process and improved full-text searching within digitised material.

Main improvements from the upgrade to ABBYY FineReader Engine 11:

  • better processing of tables, images, blocks of text, footnotes and page numbering
  • extracting text from images
  • improved handling of very large-format materials

intranda launched its own highly competitive OCR service in 2011 (for both Antiqua and Fraktur) using an in-house implementation based on the ABBYY SDK. Contact us if you would like to find out more.
